     Prof. R.Ramamurthi is a social person. He loves to have interaction with the different sections of the society. Every interaction with each person, he feels, is a learning process. He has a very broad out look towards the society. Contributions of Prof.R.Ramamurthi towards Science and Society  in collaboration with S.V.University, Academy of Gandhian Studies,Environment Society of Tirupati and other organizations.

Scientific Planning at the block level at the behest of planning commission in Rapuru and Kota blocks (Vakadu) in Nellore district .
In order to bring in micro level planning the Government of India assigned the responsibilities of preparing block level plans as an experiment in Rapuru and Kota block in Andhra Pradesh.  


Survey of bonded labour in India
The survey of incidence of the bonded labor was done in 1000 villages in 295 districts in 10 states and the report has been published as a book.

A study of Non Governmental organizations and Voluntary Action Groups in Andhra Pradesh was carried out with the help of Prof. Lakshmanna, Smt. Mamata Lakshamamma,  Prof. Raghavulu  and Prof. Venu Gopal The report has been published.  
Women's initiatives in Maharashtra, West Bengal, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Tamil Nadu  
      Academy has developed gender sensitization camps in Six different states in late 80's and early 90s.


Gandhi to Schools,More than 200 schools were provided with necessary material and training to inculcate Gandhian thinking among the children in Hyderabad city.

Youth for development
In different regions of A.P and the country a 10 days special program has been designed and organized to bring youth into the development arena and inculcate the values of voluntary action sharing and cooperation  

in Rural Development
A one year long P.G. Diploma in Rural Development is organized  by Academy for 14 students to undergo a practical oriented course on rural development.  

Formation of Peace clubs and Peace initiatives in Hyderabad  
In the riot hit world city of Hyderabad the Academy took initiative to develop      
Peace clubs with children and youth to inculcate peace and harmony

Citizens' report and Status report in Andhra Pradesh on 1990
A four year study collected information at the grass root level in regard to societal changes and compiled in the form of a citizens report. The book has been published in Telugu. 

Citizens charter on World environment on the eve of World Earth Day celebrations for the first time in 1990
6000 declarations have been made in the state and they have been collected and presented to the District collector in the form of a citizen charter on World Earth Day in 1990.


Formation of Environmental protection committees in Orissa and Goa
As part of outreach programmes Community Environmental protection committees have been formed with representation from Economists, Legal practitioners and voluntary organizations. The committees were expected to develop a state level report and organize issue based campaigns.  

Study on traditional water body in Rajasthan (Talab)
Dr. Anupam Misra and a team of NGOs from Rajasthan have made an extensive study of traditional water bodies or rain harvesting studies in Rajasthan and documented it in the form of book entitled as ‘Talab'. 

Formation of eco-clubs,As a part of environmental campaign and sustained interventions in the area of ecology and environment ,Eco clubs have been formed and initiated in different parts of the country.

Formation of Paryavarana Parirakshna Samiti
Academy of Gandhian Studies has formed District level Paryavarana Parirakshna Samiti in 10 districts 


Study on occupation oriented migration among fisher folk women :status of women and children
AGS provided necessary leadership and direction to undertake the study being supported by Action Aid through Jagriti in nine coastal districts of A.P. Approximately 2000 fisher families were interviewed and 175 villages have participated in data collection. The report has brought to light diverse occupational dimensions of traditional fisher folk.  


An enumeration and study on commercial sex workers and their children in six coastal districts in Andhra Pradesh,An enumeration of commercial sex workers in six coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh provided an astonishing figure of more than 8000 women and girls have been engaged in the heinous occupation. 25% of these were interviewed to understand the factors contributing to the occupational selection or their state of choicelessness or their state of no option. The state of children of these victims has also been studied with the support of Action Aid by help, a Non Governmental organization. .

Study on status of child trafficking and HIV in ten districts of Andhra Pradesh
As a sequel to the earlier study 300 villages have been selected in 10 districts to study the state of Child trafficking and HIV. The study has brought about a vision contributing to formulation of long-term proposal of mitigation.

Adolescent consultations on life styles and future endeavors:Approximately around 6000 adolescents have been involved in at detailed focus group discussion to evolve and approach and strategies to combat the changing scenario and suburban conditions in the process of formation of long term interventions against child trafficking and HIV. A state level consultation of adolescent has also been organized in the process. 200 Adolescent peer educators are recruited and trained in 10 selected districts

Conducted Environmental Awareness programmes on a regular basis under the   aegis of Environment Society of Tiupati,S.V.University,Tirupati,Indian Society of
Life Sciences-in English and local languages-produced booklets and brochures-organized quiz competition for schooll chidren in collaboration with National Council of Science Museums—Regional Science Centers.

Organized Biodiversity camps and conducted training camps for study of Biodiversity highlighting the importance of stakeholders and their rights.

Lectured extensively on Environmental degradation, Anthropogenic perturbations, Impact of soil and water pollution, Water management, Water harvesting and Water shed programmes in rural and urban societies, colleges and universities

Conducted survey and evaluation of afforestation schemes around Seshachalam Hill range to identify successes and failures of social forestry.

Awareness programmes to educate the coastal populations about saving Mangrove forests which help in the mitigation of impact of coastal storm surges

Programmes related to educating people living near forest edge to help preparing ‘People’s Biodiversity Registers’
